It's that time of year again. Sunset tonight will be the start of the Jewish New Year. I mentioned in previous years' posts that apple and honey is a traditional food for this time of year as it represents the hope for a sweet and fruitful year ahead. I'm going to add a wish for a healthy as well as sweet and fruitful year for my family, friends and all the lovely people who visit this blog.
And if you've never tried it do slice up an apple as the sun sets this evening, dip it in some honey and you'll wonder why you don't eat it every day of the year. It's delicious. Enjoy!

Busy, busy week
What a busy, busy week! We’ve been to Wales and now we’re back!
We’ve been visiting my sister-in-law in her amazing cottage in the side of a
mountain with its steep drive and terraced lawns, damp with dew and steep
enough to whisk your feet from beneath you. I’m a city girl at heart.
Now it’s time for apple and honey and
Happy New Year messages to everyone.
Let’s hope it’s a sweet and healthy one.
And soon it’ll be time for our virtual Macmillan's World's Biggest Coffee Morning. I hope you’re getting your Coffee Morning Fancy Dress Outfits
ready. I’ve got mine all sorted and hanging in my virtual wardrobe. There’ll be
awards for the most original outfits. You can describe them to me when you
arrive any time between Friday 30th September and Sunday 2nd October... and don’t forget to bring your Coffee Morning Jokes with you.
Of course, there is a more serious side to the event. The
MacMillan nurses were there for Mum in those last few weeks and that’s why we (me
and my sister, Hilary) have set up a Frances Denning memorial page through
JustGiving so that people can donate. You can find it at http://www.justgiving.com/Frances-Denning
and all donations go directly to MacMillan Cancer Support. Friends have already
started donating. You don’t have to wait.
...now to unpack the suitcases. What a busy, busy week!

Apple and Honey
It’s tradition. Pass round the apple and honey at the time of the Jewish New Year for a fruitful and sweet year to come.
Every year I chop up apple, pour out honey and wonder if it can possibly make a difference. I know that eating apple dipped in honey can’t change my future life but it can change the way I view life in general. It makes me think of that lovely holiday in Bruges, those atmospheric early morning walks with the dog, that morning coffee and chat with a good friend. This has not been the easiest of years but it has been a fruitful one and there have been sweet times. My beautiful new grandson was born. I had my children’s history book accepted for publication. I’ve make a lot of lovely new blog friends.

The sun will be setting in a few hours time. I’ll soon be getting out the pot of honey and selecting the rosiest of apples, only this year I’ll peel them and chop them into thin pieces so Rod can manage them, and together we’ll look forward to a year that’s not only fruitful and sweet but full of good health too.
Happy new year
