Mellow fruitfulness...

...or should that read 'Apple Glut'

Anyone fancy some apples?

stewed apple?

baked apple?

apple crumble?

If any locals are reading this then do please message me and I'll gladly bag some up for you... although you'll have to make your own crumble.

It was an incredibly dry summer but the September rains certainly made up for it. Our apple tree is still producing as you can see below...

I dare say the first hard frost will put a stop to this year's apple production and yes, winter will soon be upon us, but there is something rather cosy about a sharp frost on a day when I don't have to go out and I can spend the time snuggling up by the fire reading, or writing, or more likely trying to beat Daughter at Wordle. We swap our results every day. I suspect she's doing it to keep my brain cells active. They say that as you get older you need to exercise your mind as well as your body.

I'm working on the mind but I have to admit that the body is becoming a tad neglected. I used to go swimming but can't face that shivery getting-into-cold-water bit these days so I try to do a ten minute Youtube 'Exercise for the Older Woman' a few times a week and I occasionally do a lone dance when they play an old song on the radio. The beauty of lone dancing is you can be as daft as you like, arms waving, legs stomping...

Oh dear, am I turning into an old purple-wearing woman? Please don't reply to that. I already know the answer!

p.s. For anyone who doesn't know the purple reference, it's from the 'growing old disgracefully' type of poem called 'Warning' by Jenny Joseph which begins, 'When I am old I shall wear purple...'

  1. Hi Ros - delete one of the two previous comments ... if there's only one - fine! The apples are prolific aren't they ... thank goodness for some delightful bursting apple trees - and down here pear trees - a friend was at a dinner recently when she said they'd be spending a lot of time eating pear crumble, as there were a mass of pears at their allotment. As for the mind - that's ok, the health not so much, but a nuisance more than anything else. I do feel exhausted and struggle to push myself to do things ... thinking I must do the TaiFlow Taichi Youtube and do it every day ... keep thinking I say to myself! Cheers to you ... and glad your daughter is keeping you at it ... I used to do Wordle, but let it slip - look after yourselves ... cheers Hilary

    1. All your comments have been received loud and clear. I've got the blog set to moderate comments as I was getting a lot of odd and unwanted advertising comments so they have to wait for me to come online.

Sorry to hear your health is not so good. I do hope things improve for you soon. I try to do exercise Youtube sessions no more than three times a week. I work on the assumption that at my ae my body needs to rest and recover inbetween each burst of activity!

  2. We too have apples coming out of our ears although most are pealed, sliced and in the freezer and will probably last us until next year.
I always started my morning with 7move in 7 minutes but have got out of the habit of it. I didn't think it did me any good weight wise or waist wise but it obviously did and I need to go back to that regime.
I enjoy the cosiness of Winter but the grey skies are depressing.
Looking forward to hearing of your current writings.

    1. There's certainly an apple glut this year. As for exercise, it's best to keep moving but not overdo it, I reckon. These days if I sit writing for several hours, I have trouble standing up straight and yes, the grey skies are dreary but some nostalgic music always helps to lift the mood while doing said exercises. (I really should practice what I preach!!!!)
