Lunch at Hedges Towers

"What do you mean you KNOW her?" my friend said. "You've never met her. How can she be a friend? What will you talk about?"

The friend who said these words has never been on Twitter, never blogged and doesn't understand how real friendships can grow via our computer screens...

...and, yes, you've possibly guessed the rest. I met up with Carol Hedges today and we talked non-stop for three hours. [We only had three hours as I was taking advantage of the cheap off-peak train fares. Train travel at normal rates is prohibitively expensive... even to meet a very good friend!]

Visitors to Carol's highly entertaining blog will instantly recognise the car in this picture!

What's more, I've been inside it and here's the proof!

There's a beautifully laid out allotment just visible through the windscreen. We wandered over there and found a kind friend to take a photo of the two of us.

But we were still chatting even as the shutter clicked.

We discovered lots of things we didn't know about each other, like the fact that I'm older than Carol... but only by one month! We talked about blogging, tweeting, writing and lots more besides. I had a lovely time and I'm sorry there aren't more photos. It's just that we were talking so much...

  5. Well it's obvious from the photos that you each had a great time....annoyingly you are both slim...however, I shall not hold this against either of you....( said through gritted tooth )!...Twitter may get some bad press on occasion...but times like this, where people are getting together and sharing moments they probably would never have had the chance to experience prior to their tweetage...is to applauded and indeed encouraged. Genuinely glad you enjoyed yourselves...there's no better therapy in the world than a good laugh and a chat...( well...maybe a Johnny Depp snog )...;)

  7. Oh you both look so happy! It must have been too lovely! I think it's wonderful that in just a couple of weeks Ros has seen both Anne and Carol in person. Meeting makes it so much more special. I can well imagine you had a lot to talk about too. Ros, now you've started the tour, you have to continue and who knows, one of these days, you might even make it over this side of the water - all of you!

  8. Just delightful - that you could meet up and so obviously enjoy each other's company so much. Mind you, you do chat just about every day, so you should know each other quite well! : )

  9. Looks like both of you had a lovely day. Photos are lovely and it's great to meet and find you've plenty to say and that's probably why we all have blogs,we talk too much. Now I really have to meet up with more bloggers or tweeters.

  12. Whoa, what a car!! I'm glad you had such a great meet-up! I agree - you really do get a reliable "feel" for people after you have communicated with them for a while online. I really like getting to know my blogging buddies...but I haven't yet had the privilege of meeting any of them in real life.

  13. that is so cool, and indeed I feel that friendships are made in this blog/online world. If you called from DFW airport and said you were in TX, I'd pick you up and we'd have a great time. Glad you had some a lovely lunch and chat.

  14. Super! How wonderful that you were able to meet up face to face. There are quite a few people I've met online that I'd love to meet in person, too, and I don't think we'd have a BIT of trouble keeping the conversation going.

LOVE that car! (I'm gonna have to go check out her blog now.)

  16. You are having a great time meeting up with your blogger friends this summer. Sometimes I dream of taking a trip all across these United States, just to visit my blogger friends. Won't happen, but it sure would be fun.

  17. When I move back to UK I shall try to do the same - so many people, so little time! And that car would make my daughter drool with envy.
