BUT Did you know that:
- It often snows in March [So why are we all so surprised when it happens?]
- The heaviest recorded snowfall in London was in 1695. It snowed every day for 5 weeks and didn't clear until mid-April. [No repeats this year, please!]
- Eskimos do NOT have 100 different words for snow. [Why would anyone need that many words?]
- Chionophobia is a fear of snow. [Oh no! I think I'm suffering from that!]
Or are you out in the garden building a monster snowman?

DeleteUsed to get out there and build a snowman but now watch through window as others do it. I also watch young mums traipsing their children down to school at 8.30 in a snow storm and think Im glad thats not me!

DeleteThis weekend last year it was 21C; just half that would be fine to see any snow thaw.

DeleteWe had snow this morning, but it has gone, leaving a spiteful wind behind. As you know, me and the white stuff are not good friends, so will try to stay inside.

ReplyDeleteI'd prefer to sit in the warm moaning about it whilst hugging a cup of steaming tea, but there's no chance of that when my son insists on panic building snowmen as soon as there's enough snow on the ground, 'just in case it doesn't stay long.' Imagine worrying that it won't stay long! Oh to be six again :-)

I did read that book, in fact I have it on the bookshelf. It's called Miss Smilla's Feeling For Snow. Good book. Don't think Spring is on its way yet!
DeleteI was in Amsterdam yesterday and it was snowing heavily. Today, it was just icy cold. Rumour has it we are in for an even worse weekend. I'll just huddle up by the fire and dream of African skies. Maybe it'll be a good chance to do some writing!

DeleteI can remember wearing a winter coat,etc over Easter finery - this was in PA. We are having a "cold" snap in TX - 40s-50s and overcast. The wind is howling.
ReplyDeleteSomehow the word Spring should not embody Snow. Oh well, hang tough and hunker down and read.
Google tells me that 40-50 is 5-10 in Centigrade. Thought it was warmer in Texas.

DeleteA fear of snow! That must be awful. Although after the winter a couple of years ago, I did develop of fear of slipping and falling in front of lots of schoolchildren!! Another snow fact - it snowed in May on Dartmoor one year, during the annual Ten Tors challenge.
ReplyDeletePeople keep reminiscing about it snowing in June. We've always had these weather blips I suppose. I'm terrified of slipping. Consequently I walk with stick legs - more likely to fall!
DeleteWe're pretty used to snow in April in our part of the country. Our snow is the highest it's been in years this year. We'll be weeks before it all melts!

Oh, I forgot to mention I'm not a big fan of snow. My husband says I'm like a hot house flower. But he hates the heat and I don't care for the cold. Other than that, we're a perfect match. He always thought we were completely daft for living in FL during the Summer.
ReplyDeleteIt snowed today, when I was walking the dogs on the Brampton Valley Way, not too far from you. My son was born at the end of March, during a heat wave. Two week's later, I came out of hospital with him tightly swaddled wearing a snow suit as indeed it was snowing in April. Nothing is new about the weather!
