A to Z of Leicester: I is for...

Indian restaurants

My first curry was in 1965 at the Taj Mahal (still there in Highfield Street). I had a korma. It almost set my mouth alight. Today Leicester has over 100 Indian restaurants and I’ve progressed to madras... but never vindaloo!

A quadragintal is a blog of exactly 40 words.

It makes your mouth water, doesn't it!

  1. Because my dad was in the army, we had three years living in Malaya (as it was then) and my parents developed a love of curries... I didn't like them until about 2 years after I left those shores and love them now tho not particularly the korma prefering the dansak and jalfrezi varieties.. xx

  2. There is a wonderful Indian restaurant in my hometown in Ireland. The Indian restaurants here a few and far between. I do miss Indian cuisine. The photos are making my mouth water.

  5. I'm not fond of Indian food, but maybe it's because I have yet to find the right restaurant. Those pictures are making me hungry though.

  7. My sweet patootie, who is of Labradorian heritage, is the BEST Indian food cook. He will serve to friends of ours who are Indian and they concurr. Last night we had a beef curry with a brocoli and carrot dish too. It was so good and it was just an ordinary night dinner - not one of his feasts. I'm so lucky....

  8. An Indian restaurant recently opened here, but I've yet to try it. I'm a bit of a wimp about spicy food! :)

  9. Since the advent of indentured labourers from India, curry has been a big part of our culture.

  10. I've had some very good Indian food and a few bad experiences. My wife refuses to go to an Indian restaurant so I haven't been to one in many years. I'd love to try some more Indian food.
