Behind Front Doors

Do you wonder what’s behind front doors,
Wishing for a life that isn't yours?
Do you look at neighbours with regret?
You think you want to live their life and yet...

I bet those neighbours often look at you.
I bet they envy everything you do.
They’d love to have the life they think is yours.
So many things can hide behind front doors.

  1. Love this - at first glance a simple little poem, and then it shows itself - fab!

  2. Clever, and often true as well. Same with marriages. Things can often look different on the inside than they do to the outer world.

  3. I think there's more to this than meets the eye-very neat. reminds me a little bit of Burns - "To see oursels as ithers see us!
It wad frae monie a blunder free us,"
    very thought-provoking!

  4. This is wonderful Rosalind and oh so true. We always think other peoples lives are so much better or more interesting than our own. I am not sure other people look at my life and wish they had it. If they do, they are slightly cracked!

  8. This so captures lessons I am learning now. My neighbors, ones who have been constant, are very special people.

  9. Applies to so many things. I live in a new neighborhood, so I'm always looking at house designs. In life, I keep in mind that everyone is different.

  10. Sweet poem! I wonder about the goings on behind closed doors, but I think it's just the writer inside me trying to work out stories. I'm pretty happy in my life. :-)

  14. An astonishing poem. Really gets the creative thinking juices flowing and the imagination pounding out staccato heartbeats. You could go on and on and imagine a different lifestyle going on behind every door. I like to think about it but I know I prefer my own.
