Do you wonder what’s behind front doors,
Wishing for a life that isn't yours?
Do you look at neighbours with regret?
You think you want to live their life and yet...
I bet those neighbours often look at you.
I bet they envy everything you do.
They’d love to have the life they think is yours.
So many things can hide behind front doors.
Love this - at first glance a simple little poem, and then it shows itself - fab!
ReplyDeleteNeat! And often true.
ReplyDeleteClever, and often true as well. Same with marriages. Things can often look different on the inside than they do to the outer world.
ReplyDeleteI think there's more to this than meets the eye-very neat. reminds me a little bit of Burns - "To see oursels as ithers see us!
ReplyDeleteIt wad frae monie a blunder free us,"
very thought-provoking!

This is wonderful Rosalind and oh so true. We always think other peoples lives are so much better or more interesting than our own. I am not sure other people look at my life and wish they had it. If they do, they are slightly cracked!
ReplyDeleteDeceptively simple, yet thought-provoking as all the best pieces are :-)
ReplyDeleteRosalind this is great. True, cute, funny and lovely picture to go with it.
ReplyDeleteSo true! I often wonder what's behind all those windows and doors when I walk down the street. Fascinating.
ReplyDeleteThis so captures lessons I am learning now. My neighbors, ones who have been constant, are very special people.
ReplyDeleteApplies to so many things. I live in a new neighborhood, so I'm always looking at house designs. In life, I keep in mind that everyone is different.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful.
ReplyDeleteSweet poem! I wonder about the goings on behind closed doors, but I think it's just the writer inside me trying to work out stories. I'm pretty happy in my life. :-)
ReplyDeleteLovely poem and picture. I've just followed, will be back! :0)
ReplyDeleteI love this Rosalind. And so true. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteExcellent! Enjoyed it tremendously. And the writer inside us all makes us wonder about those doors! :-)
ReplyDeleteAn astonishing poem. Really gets the creative thinking juices flowing and the imagination pounding out staccato heartbeats. You could go on and on and imagine a different lifestyle going on behind every door. I like to think about it but I know I prefer my own.

ReplyDeleteSimple and yet deep at the same time. Wonderful.
ReplyDeleteVery thought provoking. Like the concept of public and private faces.

I love this, Rosalind. So clever - and so often true. What a thought provoking final line.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! And so what I need to hear right now. Many of my friends fulfilled their writing dreams this summer while I was on break and doing things other than writing. Thanks, Rosalind, for your lovely thoughts!
ReplyDeleteHugs!
So true! Love it :)
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this piece, Rosalind. A small package with a big impact. Well done.

ReplyDeleteVery thought provoking.
This is so very true. I often look at houses and think these same things.
ReplyDeleteFabulous poem! I've been guilty of this, even though I know very well that things are not always as they seem to the outside world. I really enjoyed this poem, excellent work.
