For Once in my Life

I'm not exaggerating when I say that this Ron Miller and Orlando Murden song rescued me from the grips of agoraphobia. I was a teenager and struggling to cope with the big wide world. I got to the point where I could barely leave the house on my own but this song and its lyrics helped me through.

'...for once, unafraid, I can go where life leads me
And somehow I know I'll be strong...'

I sung it to myself as I walked down the street, as I queued at the bus stop, as I entered those huge, imposing school gates. One day I may even write to Stevie Wonder and tell him what this song did for me.

Have you ever gained extra strength by holding a certain song in your head?

Flashdance (What a Feeling)

These lyrics are all about the fight to see your dreams through to fruition. I bet there's not a writer in this blogosphere who doesn't know what that feels like.

'First, when there's nothing but a slow growing dream
That your fear seems to hide deep inside your mind...'

We all know the theory. Overcome the fear. Keep battling on... but whenever I hear Flashdance I will always and forever think of Robert Webb, dressed as a girl, dancing to this song in aid of Comic Relief!

Have you ever had a slow growing dream of an idea that you were too afraid to act upon?
Or are you now too busy thinking about Robert Webb dressed as a girl?

Let me know if I missed out one of your favourite songs beginning with F.
