B Song Lyrics - A to Z Challenge

So much more than moons and Junes
  • A song for each of the following decades beginning with B
  • A lyric snippet from at least one of those songs to set you thinking... and commenting!

1960s:          Blowing in the Wind - Peter, Paul and Mary

1970s:          Baker Street - Jerry Rafferty

1980s:           Billie Jean - Michael Jackson

1990s:           Back for Good - Take That

Blowing in the Wind

This song was one of Bob Dylan's anti-war songs which became an anthem for us in the 1960s when we, the teenagers, thought that we could change the world and bring an end to war.

'...how many times can a man turn his head
And pretend that he just doesn't see...

...how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry,
Yes and how many deaths will it take til he knows
That too many people have died...'

Sadly men and women are still pretending that they don't see the injustices in the world, be it futile wars or the appalling treatment of frail hospital patients. I've said this many times before but why can't we all truly care for each other?

Are there injustices going on right now that make you feel ashamed to be human?
Or do you think that the majority of us do really care?

Baker Street

Rafferty was inspired to write Baker Street when he was living in London's Baker Street in the 1970s.

'...another year and then you'd be happy
But you're cryin'. You're cryin' now...'

I've lost count of how many times I've thought that I just need to struggle through these exams/this training course/the kids growing up... and then everything will be great but when I get there, there's just more of the same.

Have you ever caught yourself believing that you only need another year and then you'd be happy?

If you have a favourite song from one of these decades that says something to you, something more than just ‘moons and Junes’, then let me know, along with your blog link if you have one, and I’ll include it if I can.
