A few days ago a non-writer friend asked me why I have a blog. He was genuinely bemused. He couldn't understand why I would want to spend time putting words onto a computer screen. I gave him the stock responses.
- I'm a writer and need to keep working on my skills.
- I'm a writer and it is helpful to network with other writers.
- I'm a writer and must sell myself to prospective publishers [Which reminds me, I've just updated my 'About Me' page. The tab is above this post - just saying.]
That's why I'm typing my fingers to the knuckles getting the A to Z ready. [If you've not yet signed up then do pop along to the A to Z Sign Up Page. It's not too late to get involved and you'll meet some amazing bloggers and be rewarded with lots of friendship and support throughout the month.]
And it's why I've joined DL Hammons' Blog Blitz.

Sounds fun, doesn't it? If you want to join in then pop over to his blog at Cruising Altitude 2.0 and put your name on the linky list. I have done :-)
Why do you blog?
And if you don't blog, what do you enjoy about reading blogs?
You do find interesting stuff! I've signed up on both now too :)
ReplyDeleteExcellent. I'm sure you'll enjoy them :-)
DeleteSo true, Rosalind - we do love comments. And blogging and reading blogs gives me a sense of having friends 'out there'!
ReplyDeleteWe're chatting over a virtual garden fence, aren't we!
DeleteI'm doing the A to Z challenge too. Looking forward to seeing your posts. =)
ReplyDeleteHi, and thanks for the visit.
DeleteHi Ros, I'm busily scheduling all of my A-Z posts, for 2 separate blogs! It's going well. This'll be my 3rd year in the challenge so I'm looking forward to it. The reason why I blog is because I love writing and photographing and sharing it with my online friends. It's been great 'meeting' new people online!
ReplyDeleteThat first A to Z was when you noticed that I was blogging about your home town of Leicester. This is such a fascinating place! And I mean the Internet not Leicester.
DeleteI blog pretty much for the same reasons as you ^_^ I like to write, I like the community, and well, it also keeps me from being bored at times.
ReplyDeleteYes, I never get bored now as there are always people's blogs to visit. Love that cat ^_^
DeleteI blog for, well, fun. I live alone, so putting the world to rights by myself can get a bit pointless (even if I am always right). So getting ideas out there, seeing what other people think - I love it. My posts can be a bit random, but hey ho - who said there were rules?
ReplyDeleteAnd it is lovely when people comment.
It is lovely to get a comment, isn't it. Even if it's just a few words.
DeleteOooh I'm going to have to take a look at that, thank you Rosalind!
ReplyDeleteI've awarded you the Reality Blog award, more about it at my place, if you wish to accept. :-)
Ooooh! Thank you so much. I shall pop over to collect :-)
DeleteOopps! We kinda did it again. I have spread the word of the Blog Blitz on my blog too.I think it's a great idea,I love comments. I agree with your first part,so many people just don't understand why we blog,in fact none, not one of my friends or family understand why and only my hubby and daughter read my blog. Ah well, they don't know what they're missing,ha ha!
ReplyDeleteYes, I have friends who say they'll start reading my blog when they retire as they don't have time now. Wonder what they think I'm writing here - tomes?
DeleteI enjoy blogging as a bit of a warm up to the day, and it makes me think about words in general. Even if I'm writing a movie review, or just posting pictures of tulips, I want to add a bit of pizazz to the presentation. In regards to comments, I have to nudge my own father to read my blog. Then he comments via email separately. It's a crazy blog world, that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteHi Ros .. Leicester has a big claim to fame now - not many Kings buried in a car park for 500 years?! Now to rest in the Cathedral I hope ...
ReplyDeleteI didn't think I could write ... but the blog has taught me I can, it's taught me more history than I ever thought possible, it's taught me so many things I'd have glanced/glossed over and not taken cognisance of ...
It's opened my eyes to so many others' lives - again learning to appreciative so much about people and how they cope, get through their challenges ... and then as you mention - perhaps the most important part is the supportive network of friends far and wide, north and south .... and round about!
Cheers and I'm so looking forward to the A-Z .... but not more snow before that - or cold, hailing rain .... keep warm and dry - Spring sure must come soon? - Hilary
I enjoy the whole process of researching and creating a post because I enjoy writing in general, but what's unique about blogging is the immediate feedback and interaction we get through comments. Even more than that, though, blogging has the ability to expand our horizons and expose us to soooooo many wonderful people and ideas from all around the world. The sense of community one can find in the blogoshere is absolutely amazing.
ReplyDeleteThank you for mentioning my Blog Blitz, Rosalind! We are currently up to 137 team members and I'm shooting for 200+ by this weekend. Our first victim is going to be SHOCKED! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing you at another A to Z Rosalind! I also love the interaction, as well as the sense of accomplishment in blogging. It is difficult for many outsiders to understand, but it's always worthwhile to meet those who do.
ReplyDeleteJulie
I started blogging because I had to! It was part of my book contract and at first I was confused as to what I was doing. I didn't have a sense of direction. But now, a year later, I love it and I love reading other people's blogs too, about the different things they've been doing, seeing, listening to, hearing their opinions and looking at lovely photos. It just widens my world!
ReplyDeleteI blog because it is a BLAST! Now I'm blitzed!!!!
ReplyDeletePopped in from the Blog Blitz.

I love blogging for the discipline of having to produce a piece of writing regulalry - it feeds into writing novels. And I like my blog because I can use it to showcase and feature other writers!!
