Around the Next Corner

I know that this poem relies on a well trodden cliché but I wrote it last week during one of my more pensive moments and thought I'd like to share it with you.

The road reaches out to a far distant line.
There are times when I wish it would end.
I’m tired of walking. I can’t see the point,
Then I see up ahead there’s a bend.

I’ve come upon many a bend in the past.
I’ve quickened my pace, upped my game.
I’ve taken the corner with brightening eyes
Til I see it’s just more of the same.

This bend up ahead might be different from those.
This one seems to glint in the sun.
I’m walking with purpose. I’ve quickened my pace
Because this one might just be the one.

Do the bends in your road reveal more of the same or do some of them glint in the sun?

  1. That's the great thing about bends in the road. You just never know.

  2. I like the idea of there being bends in the road, rather than roadblocks or potholes, and I hope the next bend in the road is bathed in sunshine for you.

  3. You have a terrific ear for voicing poetic thoughts.
Lately, most of my bends have been interesting portals into new adventures.

Looking forward to following your A to Z posts.

  4. Lovely! I love bends in the road - I love the potential, the possibilities. Nothing is truly more exciting! And even if the bend doesn't turn out the way we expect, that sometimes makes it even better!

  5. Pretty much more of the same,
but hey, I'm blessed so no need to complain.
It's a long long road, with many a winding turn that leads us to who knows where, who knows when.
Remember that old Neil Diamond song? Well you bring back memories, thanks, Geoff.

  6. Those bends seem so positive - I'm in a happy, optimistic mood today!

  7. The best adventures always lie around those bends in the road. We just have to accept the challenges, and hope for the best. Nice poem.

  8. Lovely poem! Yes we never know what's just around the bend and That's what my mum always said to me. I love the photo, did you take it?

  9. Hi Ros .. we never know - but I love the pensive thought here, we all succumb to these imaginations - fortunately they usually are imaginations ...

Life is just one big adventure .. and hills!! Especially if we take the positive outlook and actually move towards the bend of life ..

Enjoy this wonderful weekend .. Hilary

  10. Hi Rosalind, I love this poem. It is so beautiful, the vision it conjures is so apt for all of us, the never ending roads, we all waiting for the bends.

  11. Thanks for all your kind and positive comments. As I said, I wrote it in a pensive mood but it's interesting to see how many of us have similar feelings so thanks for sharing.

  12. At heart, I'm an optimist so, whilst there's usually only more of the same, I never give up hope :-)

  13. Usually, I'm excited to see a bend in the road. So many thrilling possibilities. There are some days though when I know that more of the same lies ahead.

A wonderful thought-provoking poem. Thanks for sharing.
